What should AlmaLinux do next? Tell us!

almalinux.org

Key points

AlmaLinux board chair benny Vasquez has opened a community survey asking users what the project should focus on next, over both the next two to three years and the next ten. The answers will feed into the board's planning at its December meeting.

How to take part

  • The survey takes about five minutes and stays open until Monday, November 16.
  • Responses are anonymous unless you add your email address at the end.
  • The form runs on CryptPad, an open source tool with end-to-end encryption, so no account is needed.
  • The survey asks what works, what is missing, and the single thing you most want the project to do.
  • You can also join the discussion on the AlmaLinux forums.
  • AlmaLinux will have a booth at All Things Open in Raleigh next week for feedback in person.
  • The project asks users to pass the survey on to other AlmaLinux users.

What happens with the results

  • Board members are answering the same question.
  • The chair will combine their answers with the survey results and present them at the December board meeting.
  • Afterwards the project will publish what it heard and what it plans to do in response.

Current state of the project

  • The build pipeline is designed around security, and a sponsor-run mirror network serves millions of AlmaLinux OS devices worldwide.
  • AWS and Microsoft Azure sponsor the AlmaLinux OS Foundation and offer AlmaLinux images, as does Google Cloud.
  • Since March, NVIDIA has officially supported AlmaLinux in CUDA. AlmaLinux now ships NVIDIA's packages from its own repositories so driver and CUDA updates stay aligned.
  • The current priority is expanding the certification catalog. Certification was relaunched in September with a quicker, simpler process for vendors and community members, and 44 hardware systems have been certified so far.
  • Work also continues on the goals that SIG leaders and the board set at this year's Leadership Summit.

Summary by DistroNews, based on the original post.

AlmaLinux has grown a lot since we started, and I want to make sure the work we take on next is the work you need from us. That means that before we decide, I want to hear from you! Take a few minutes and send your input to this form. What we’ve built Over the last few years, we’ve built a pipeline for AlmaLinux OS with security at its center, backed by a mirror network that serves users all over the world, and with millions of devices running AlmaLinux OS. Thank you to every mirror sponsor who donates bandwidth and hardware to make that possible.
